This is a photograph taken at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in July 2001, just south of Martin, Tennessee of the burial site of Charles Stuart Speed who died in 1856. When I first found the gravesite, the top half of the grave marker was missing. I later had a replacement marker made and found the upper half of the original one buried just under the ground where it had fallen. Both markers are shown in the picture. Pleasant Hill Cemetery is located just to the south of the intersection of Old Troy Road and Pleasant Hill Road just across the street from the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church which was founded in the early 1830�s. Charles Speed and his wife, Martha Cowell, were early members of the church.
