This is in Martin area I have several family members who attended Public Wells, Walnut Ridge and Union High schools. All three of these schools was located close to each other. Excerpts taken from 'The Martin Mail' & 'The Weakley County Press' Submitted by Deborah Johnson 16 Aug 1918 "Public Wells - Miss Irene Miles left Monday to take up school near Gleason Tuesday. She is going to teach summer school and will come back home to teach the primary school at the Union High School next winter." 13 Jan 1922 "Public Wells - Mrs. Irene Bullington is at the home of her father, W. S. Miles, sick with flu and is not able to take up her work as teacher at Stella-Ruth. She has been sick for some time." 15 Feb 1924 "Public Well - Mrs. Irene Bullington, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Will Miles, has been real sick with something like flu and has had to get her sister to teach school in her place at Stella Ruth until she gets able to go back to her work." 19 Dec 1930 "Stella-Ruth School News - Mrs. Bullington is back after a several days absence on account of flu." |
