The land for Mt. Hermon was deeded to the Methodist
Episcopal Church, South in 1891 by Chesley Mann YEARGIN and his wife Mary
Jane SIMMONS. In 1893, a frame building was erected approximately where
the present church now stands. Some years later the church was moved up
on a knoll behind where the church first stood. In the late 1920's, the
State Highway Dept. surveyed for the new Highway 54. This divided the church
property and left the building on a small plot. In the early 1940's, with
funds available, volunteer help, and salvage from the old building, a new
red brick building was erected near where the
