DAVIDSON, John Calvin; 9/13/1842 - 12/22/1926; Enlisted December 20, 1861 in Gibson County in Caruthers' Battery, Heavy Artillery. He was captured & paroled at Vicksburg, Mississippi July 4, 1863 as a member of Company L, 1st Tennessee Heavy Artillery (Andrew Jackson's Regiment). Andrew Jackson was actually Rachel's nephew and President Andrew Jackson adopted him and named him Andrew, Jr. He took part in the following battles: Island #10 (April 6 & 7, 1862). Caruthers' unit was disbanded in May 1862 and the men were transferred to T. N. Johnston's Tennessee Heavy Artillery Company. In December 1862 the unit was attached to the 1st Tennessee Heavy Artillery. Between April & July 1863 was involved in the Siege of Vicksburg, Miss.

CATE CEMETERY (West of Rudd's Crossing)

MAXWELL, Robert P.; Maxwell, R.P. AR 38th Inf. Co. C; January 15, 1922, and is buried in Cates Cemetery between Martin and Sharon. His grave is unmarked; however, there is a marker for his wife, T. S Maxwell, who died in 1906. Her stone is one of the oldest in Cates and is in the front right of the cemetery as you are facing it from the road. (Place flag next to Wife's marker)

Co.  D. 12th Tn Infantry, CSA; Wounded on pickett duty between Corinth and Shiloh; hospital 8 weeks; in battles Belmont, Shiloh, Richland KY., Murfreesboro, & Laverne.  Discharged  Feb. 1863. The wound he received in battle of Shiloh was to the head.  A silver Dollar was placed on his head where the musket ball hit.  He stated he would never die broke.;  Buried Cox Cem.

 McGILL, Rev. T. J.; 6/2/1840 - 11/28/1917; Co. F, 5th TN Inf.; Attached to Quarles' Division in Cheatham's Corps, took part in the battles of Tullahoma and Stone River at Murfreesboro, after which he was detached as a special courier for the provost marshal general. A little time after this he was captured and taken to the federal prison in Alton, Illinois, and later to City Point, Virginia, where he was exchanged. He was later captured and taken to Camp Douglas, Illinois;  where he remained a prisoner until the close of the war." Buried Eastside Cemetery

GARDNER CEMETERY (Area 1 #4)

GARDNER, Algernon Colegate 1841 - 1920; Co. G, Ninth Tn. Infantry. Buried Gardner Cem. large headstone that says "Gardner". (LISTED IN CEMETERY BOOKS AS COLLEY GARDNER ) There is one large tombstone marked Gardner and on one side is the small stone for A.C. ( Algernon Colegate). On the other side is a small stone for his wife Jodie Johnson. Algernon Colegate Gardner's small tombstone reads " Colley" Gardner...his nickname for Colegate. The stone is to the right of the large Gardner stone as you face the big one.

HAZLEWOOD, James H.; Capt. Co. D 12th Regt. Cav. TN. He survived the war and lived out his life in Weakley and surrounding area. It is unknown at this time where he is buried but believed to be buried at Gardner Cemetery.  (READ NAME AT MEMORIAL)

McCALLUM, Austin J.; CSA marker; He joined Co. A, 48th (Voorhies') TN Inf. Regt, Maury County, TN. He was captured February 1862 at Fort Donelson, TN and later was released on parole at Vicksburg, MS.  Later, he rejoined the 48th TN Inf. Regt and was again captured December 1864 in the Battle of Nashville. He was still in prison when the war was over. After the war, 1st Sgt Austin J. McCallum returned to Williamson County, TN; Buried Good Springs Cemetery

BLALOCK, Elisha Dines; born in Perry County, MO; enlisted in the 3rd Kentucky Infantry on 15th of July 1861. He was in Paducah, KY and was captured by the Union Troops. He lost his right arm at the shoulder and when well enough was sent to St. Louis to a Confederate prison there, and he remained there the rest of the war. Though he joined a Kentucky unit he was pensioned out of Tennessee. and moved to Graves Co., KY. when he was 3 years old. He lived in and around Graves, Fulton Co , KY and Obion and Weakley Counties in TN. as a lot of his family did. Buried a Good Springs Cemetery. He does have a marker.

THOMAS, Meek B. (1827-1899), buried Walker's Chapel, Weakley County. He enlisted at Chapel Hill, Marshall County with Holman's Partisan Rangers, which was consolidated into Company A and B 11th Tennessee Calvary. M. B. Thomas on marker.

CAMPBELL, William (1842-1912) served two tours of duty during the Civil War. First "Joined Up" in 1861 for one year with his younger brother, George Washington CAMPBELL, who was "killed right off" early part of War. William  serving in Co A 15th TN Reg. under Col William Carroll & Ben Ezzell. Came home, then "joined up" again with another brother, Thomas Campbell Dec 24, 1862 in Middleburg, TN - Forrest's 3rd Reg TN Cav McDonald's Battalion where he remained until close of war in 1865. Buried in Hebron Cem, Carroll Co. William's son Samuel Buford "Buford" Campbell b. 1907 is still living and resides in Murfreesboro, TN. (2011 - he has passed on now, buried in Hebron Cem)

CAMPBELL, George Washington Co A 15th TN Reg under Col William Carroll. He was killed early in the War, only 17 yrs old - burial unknown - younger brother to William and Thomas Campbell above.

ADAMS, James K.; b. 1848 d. 11/15/1930; Cox's Battalion (and) afterwards Biffles regiment Cavalry. Enlisted in the fall of 1863. Cox's Battalion, afterwards Biffles regiment; Battles: Britts Landing Tenn river all the engagements & skirmishes in which the regiment was engaged. Was furloughed about Dec 5th 1864 on account of measles. Came home to West Tenn & was never able to get back to his command; Buried in Hopewell Cemetery. From all we've been able to ascertain at this point, this gentlemen has no marker. All we have to go on is the obituary that states the location of his interment. (READ NAME AT CEREMONY)

MISC. CEMETERY (1642 Chestnut Glade - Rd. Martin/Latham Rd)

THOMAS, William A.; Sgt. Co. K 31st TN Inf. is buried at the homeplace cemetery located at 1642 Chestnut Glade Rd. (Martin/Latham Road) Martin. Killed as he followed Gen. Strahl at battle of Franklin November 30th 1864. William has the only headstone in a private family cemetery. This stone was erected on Sept 15th.1996 by Terry Coats in a Confederate stone dedication ceremony.


MISC, CEMETERY

COLE, Capt. R.S. (Richmond Swinea) CSA, Tennessee State Militia
Buried in a private family cemetery beside Carroll Lake in McKenzie on Carroll Lake road. Only about 1/4 mile off Hwy. 22 on the right. He was a friend and assistance to Gen. Nathan Bedford Forrest and supported many of Forrest's troops on his property during the war. He served as a medic for the Confederate army at Shiloh and was instrumental in Forrest's escape from McKenzie just before the battle at Parker's Crossroads. He was the father of Annie Cole Hawkins who wrote "War Leaflets". He was also instrumental in the capture of some of the Claiborne bushwhackers during the war. He did push for a trial for them but, they just went ahead and executed them in the end.

G, 51st TN Inf.; Elected circuit court clerk of Weakley County in 1860, but in the spring of 1861 raised Company G, Fifty-first Tennessee Infantry, and was elected captain. He was at Shiloh, Perryville and in numerous severe skirmishes, and in 1863 was captured near his home and taken to Johnson's Island, where he was retained three months. Arrested by bushwhackers on way home. After war worked in tobacco business and as farmer. Living 1928.

It was reported in a family memoir that he died at Chickamauga after that battle. According to records, he returned home due to illness after Shiloh. According to  the story, his wife, Eliza Jane KENDALL TREVATHAN rode a mule to Chattanooga  after the battle and nursed him until he died in December. Burial Unknown
