from  the Greenfield area of Weakley County


William E. Caudle
1846-1900

Did not marry.  Fought for South in Civil War, in Nathan Bedford Forrest's Regiment.  At some part in the war, a group of Confederate Tennesseans captured several Northern soldiers who were from Tennessee and cut their 
ears off.  A short time later several Confederate Tennesseans were captured  by the Northern Army and, in reprisal, castrated them.  William E. Caudle was in this group of Confederates.

William's parents were John R. (1822-1908) and Nancy (Garrett) Caudle  (1825-1892).  

When the town of Greenfield was incorporated in 1873, William was part owner and chemist of Caudle and Shannon Drug Store.

Greenfield is inflicted with an epidemic of malarial fever now.  Dr. D.W.  Scates, W.E. Caudle, S.E. McAdams and H.L. Barton, are all confined to their beds with the fever.
