Andrew Jackson Cantrell (Ally Jack)

He was a prisoner in Andersonville Prison .

Cantrell, Andrew J -- Private, Co E, 7th Cavalry USA  (also spelled Canterel)

Andrew J(ackson) Cantrell, pvt to cpl, Co E first then C after Andersonville, enlisted in Huntingdon on 6/28/62, mustered at Humboldt on 8/11/62 .  He was captured at Trenton and spent time at Camp Chase, Ohio parole camp awaiting exchange, He was Quartermaster Sgt for 3 months.  He was captured at Union City in March of 1864 and spent time in Andersonville prison but survived.  After return to duty after exchange he was listed as missing in Action in June of 1865. He received a certificate of discharge in 1880 after apparently not having obtained one earlier.  In the 1890 vets census he was living at Palmersville in Weakley Co and said he was feeble from his Andersonville experiences.  He applied for an invalid pension in 1882 #436,626 and his widow applied in 1896.
