Microfilm Roll #1570 National Archives
Transcribed by MaryCarol
District 14 Page 214
Dresden P. O. - W. K. Gibbs, Asst. Marshall - June 1st
Transcribing this Census was not easy - there are many opportunities for error, from what people told the Census Taker ( who was an Assistant Marshall in 1870), the way the Census Taker wrote a name, which of the 3 handwritten copies we are really looking at, down to my transcribing. Even when I knew the spelling to be different, I kept what I saw for the historical integrity of the Census. On this Web version of the Census, if you see an error, please let me know. If I look at the microfilm and say, "yes, it really says that", I will change it. If it really says what I wrote, I will put your corrected version in [brackets]. Check with each District page to see any odd ways the Census Taker spelled certain names; such as Patterson was spelled Pattison, Campbell was spelled Cambell, Martha was Mothy. MaryCarol |
