Pleasant THACKER b. 1793 in Pittsylvania Co VA d. August 14, 1872 District 5, Weakley Co TN.  Moved to Weakley Co between 1836 and 1840. He served as a Private in Captain William Payne's Company of the 6th Regiment of Virginia militia volunteers, commanded by Col. Daniel Coleman, in the war of 1812.  He was enrolled in service at the courthouse in Pittsylvania Co, Virginia in 1812 for two years.  he was honorably discharged at Norfolk, VA in April 1814.  He declared he had been granted two land warrants for his service, one for 40 acres and one for 120 acrers, in 1850.  He was in active service in and around Norfolk for about six months during which time he held the rank of Corporal and also served in the Company of Lieutenant Wm, Winbush.  His Pension Number is 20698.  His widow appplied for and received a survivor's pension - National Archives, Washington, DC.

The application file is filled with data including his physical description and signature.  There is consierable other data because his widow's application was at first denied, necessitating several affidavits detailing the circumstances of their marriage, his death, etc..
