enlisted to Dec 23, 1812. John Horton, born 1791 in North Carolina, and died 1873 in Obion County Tennesee, was one of the earliest settlers of the northwest corner of Weakley County. He and his brothers Robert and George signed the 1823 Legislative petition to form Weakley County. Col John Gardner in his July 4th, 1876, speech in Dresden mentions John and his brother George as two of the early settlers in the northwest corner of Weakley County. Col Gardner also mentions that John Horton was a magistrate. John Horton was succeeded by J.M. Paschall who served for 18 years. John Horton and his brother Archibald served in the War of 1812 in Captain Sugg�s Company, 6th regiment, Kentucky Militia, Commanded by Colonel Philip Barbour and General Samuel Hopkins. John Horton received a pension for his service as a private in Capt. William Sugg's Company, KY Militia. (see S.O. 13406, S.C. 15524). Submitted by Lee Horton
