Vaughn Cemetery

The Vaughn Cemetery is located in south central Wayne County. This cemetery is relatively new and does not carry a number as others in Wayne County do. To reach the cemetery, from Cypress Inn, Tennessee, travel east on highway 227 for 5 miles. Turn left onto Middle Cypress Creek Road North and travel 1.5 miles passing the May Branch Rd. The cemetery is on the left on a sloping hillside. The cemetery sign reads: In Memory of J.W. Vaughn�

Tom S. Ray Cemetery

LOCATION: The “RAY” Cemetery is located on a hill overlooking the old Tom S. RAY homeplace. There are two RAY Cemeteries; one is called the Ray Cemetery (West) and the other is called the Ray Cemetery (East). This listing is the west cemetery. Most of these listed are in some way related to the RAY family, either directly or indirectly. The old farm is now owned by T. B. GARTH.

Ray, William, 22 Dec 1805 – 19 July 1885, son of Hezekiah Ray who was born in South Carolina. William was also born in South Carolina and he is the father of Tom S. Ray.
Ray, Rebecca Jane Mitchell 25 October 1846 – 7 July 1888. Daughter of Grief and Catherine Morris Mitchell She was the first wife of Tom S. Ray. 
McCollum, Sarah M., 30 October 1863 – 29 May 1890. Wife of J. F. McCollom. She was the daughter of John A. and Ana Tamar Cole Talley. John A. Talley was the son of George H. and Nancy S. Cypert Talley who moved to Iowa in 1848. Ana
Tamar Cole Talley was the daughter of Bennett and Nancy Kerwin Cole.
McCollum, Infant, born and died 21 May 1890. child of Sarah and J. F. McColllum who was born dead. Sarah M. Talley McCollum died as a result of complications from this birth.

Bundrant, Keren Happock, 27 March 1843 – 4 April 1897. Daughter of John and Sarah Lynn McMillan. She first married John A. Melson. They had one son, John F. Melson. Later she married John W. Bundrant; they also had one son: William Bundrant.
Ray, Tamer Cole, 22 May 1866 – 26 December 1898. Daughter of Andrew and Emily Cole. Second wife of Tom S. Ray; mother of Willie and Vera Ray. Tamer died as a result of a typhoid epidemic. Ironically, her brother, John Bennett Cole, died from the same epidemic.
Cole, John Bennett, 12 November 1876 – 18 November 1899. Son of Andrew and Emily Cole; brother of Tamer Cole Ray. Supposedly died the same year as his sister, but tombstone has different date.
Dicus, Willie Cole, 15 March 1894 – 5 November 1899, son of W. P. and Iona Cole Dicus. Probably a victim of the same typhoid epidemic.

There are a few graves that are identified by native stone only. On one there appears to be the name CLAY. This writer’s mother believes this to be Lester CLAY, son of Cary CLAY.

		This is Charles Malone "Uncle Charlie" Thompson, son of Zacharian and
		Charity Cypert Thompson. He married Edna Paulk, 8 Nov 1849, the daughter
		of Jason and Mahala Thornton Paulk. C. M. served as a personal scout to
		Gen. Granville Dodge during the War of Rebellion and was County Superintendent
		of Education. He was a Mason and a Hardshell Baptist. His children were
		Zachariah Jason, Charles Malone Jr., Nancy Malinda Ann Mahala, anad Jesse 
		Newton Thompson.

Stribling Graves

LOCATION: These two graves are located in the garden at Madison Daniel’s house on the new Weatherford Creek Road, about two-and-a-half miles south of Lutts. No stones remain, but the following are known to be buried here.

Stribling, John Birdsong, born 1789 in South Carolina, died between 1870-1880.
Stribling, Hannah White, wife of John Birdsong Stribling, born 1790, died
between 1860-1870.

Mr. Daniel stated that he remembered two field stones marking three graves at the end of the garden when he was a boy. The stones were gone when he bought the property.

John Birdsong STRIBLING and Hannah White STRIBLING were the great- grandparents of Thomas Sigismund STRIBLING, Pulitzer Prize winning novelist from Clifton, Tennessee.

Stribling Cemetery

LOCATION: These graves can be found at Lutts, Tenn 38471, on the Florence road. The farm was known as the Stribling Place. Since then Halls, and Sam White have owned it. At the present time it is owned by a man in Florence. They are up on the hill near Claude and Loyd Eaton’s place.
