Rudolph S. SchmittouSCHMITTOU, Rudolph S., serial number 1,919,883W, 1st Corporal, Co. B, 307th Amm. Tr., was born 24 December 1892 at Louise, Montgomery County, TN. He died 11 May 1967 at Topsy, Wayne Co., TN and is buried in the Durham Cemetery. He enlisted on 13 November 1917 at Allens Creek, Wayne Co., TN as a private. He was honorably discharged on 24 May 1919 at Ft. Oglethorpe, GA and given $89.22 for travel expenses home. He was a farmer and a railroad fireman.

He was the son of Francis SCHMITTOU and Newel GREEN, natives of Montgomery County, Tennessee.

During the war he served in the Marbache Sector, St. Miehel Sector and the Meuse Argonne Offensive from 25 June to 9 Nov 1918. He hauled ammunition to the front lines.

He came home on a furlough on 24 Feb 1918 and married Mae EDWARDS SCHMITTOU. He had one step-daughter, Juanita SCHMITTOU MEREDITH.

Schmittou, Albert Francis

SCHMITTOU, Albert Francis, serial number 1,884,859, Corporal Battery D 317 Field Artillery, was bornAlbert Schmittou February 12th, 1889 at Louise in Montgomery County, Tennessee. He died March 25th, 1985 at Lewis County Nursing Home and is buried in the Dickson Cemetery. He enlisted April 27th, 1918 in Dickson County, Tennessee and served with the 156 Deport Brigade until May 25th, 1918. From May 26th, 1918 to June 15th, 1919 he served with the Battery D 317 Field Artillery. One position he was known to have held was that of Stable Sergeant. He was promoted to Private First Class on July 1st, 1918 and to Corporal on September 1st, 1918. He served in France from August 7th, 1918 to June 8th, 1919 with specific places unknown. He was honorably discharged June 15th, 1919. He re-enlisted October 8th, 1919 in Waynesboro, Tennessee and was honorably discharged October 7th, 1920. He was stationed in San Antonio, Texas during his second tour of duty. Some occupations he held were steam shovel operator, farmer, carpenter, law officer, railroad construction worker and powder man for the state of Tennessee highway department.

He was the son of Francis Schmittou and Newell Green, natives of Montgomery County, Tennessee.

His siblings were Betty Baggett of Louise, Tennessee, Aletha Baggett of Clarksville, Tennessee, Richard Schmittou, Alec Schmittou, Rudolph Schmittou, Rayborn Schmittou, Levi Schmittou, Will Schmittou and Marvin Schmittou.

He was married to Gladys Louise Whitson and had two sons, four daughters and many grandchildren. His children are Thomas W. Schmittou, Albert C. Schmittou, Ida N. Skelton, Betty Francis Daughtry, Celia Tidwell and Carolyn Sue Nixon.
