Spain, James “Jim” Mack

SPAIN, James “Jim” Mack, service number 3496868, Private, Caswal Co. 515 Infantry. He was born April 1892, Spain Branch, Wayne Co., TN, the son of Charlie A. and Rachel Matilda HAYS SPAIN. Per his discharge he is described as 5’2″ in height, with brown eyes, black hair and a dark complexion. He entered the service on 24 June 1918 at Waynesboro, Tennessee and served with the American Expeditionary Forces in 1918. He sailed from New York on 3 Nov 1918, for France and returned to Newport News, Va in December 1918. He was discharged at Ft. Oglethorpe, Ga on 8 February 1919.

His siblings were Andrew Hays SPAIN (see above), Flora SPAIN, Leander Clyde SPAIN, Ethel SPAIN, John Homer SPAIN, Homer’s twin brother who died at birth, and Pearl SPAIN. Jim never married and lived with his sister Pearl SPAIN COFFMAN on Spain Branch until is death. He is buried at Oak Grove Cemetery, Wayne Co., TN.
