Smotherman, Huey Robert

SMOTHERMAN, Huey Robert, Pvt., service number 3799817, was stationed at Fort Dix, New Jersey. He entered the service in 1918 and was dischargeHuey Robert Smothermand in 1919. He lived at Romance, Arkansas before entering the service with his wife, Abree Dean DAVIS SMOTHERMAN and his six month old son, Elzie Andrew SMOTHERMAN.

He received a card from the Adjutant General promising his a job, upon discharge, with his father-in-law, Esker Elzie DAVIS on his farm making $35 a month.

Huey Robert SMOTHERMAN was born 1 Nov 1889 in Lawrence County, Tennessee. His father was Andrew John SMOTHERMAN and his mother was Mary Ann BREWER. He had two brothers: Joe and George SMOTHERMAN.

He married Abree Dean DAVIS on 254 March 1917 and they had three sons and five daughters:

1. Elzie Andrew SMOTHERMAN, married Mozel SPAIN. They had one son, Jackie Dale SMOTHERMAN.

2. William Franklin SMOTHERMAN, never married. He was killed in a car wreck in 1946.

3. James Randal SMOTHERMAN, married Alice PARKER. They had five children: Garvis Glen, Sandra Diane, Bobby Joe, Roger Dale and Teresa Gail.

4. Ailene SMOTHERMAN who died in 1925 at age 18 months.

5. Carmie Lee SMOTHERMAN, married Cletis Leon MORGAN. They had two sons: William Jerome and Barry Leon MORGAN.

6. Mable Lee SMOTHERMAN, married William Henry DAVIS. They had three children: Patricia Diane, Pamela Joyce and Ricky Joe.

7. Clara Mae SMOTHERMAN, married Howard Lutton HADDOCK. They had two children: Robert McKinley and Linda Gail.

8. Mary Margaret SMOTHERMAN, married Willie Floyd LONG. They had one son: Gregory Paul LONG.

Huey Robert SMOTHERMAN had a grandson, Robert McKinley HADDOCK who, exactly sixty years later, took his basic training in the same training camp at Ft. Dix, NJ.

Mr. SMOTHERMAN died 26 Sep 1966 and is buried at McCall Cemetery, Collinwood, Tennessee.
