Input and information by Don Meredith

LOCATION: This cemetery in located west of Green River and northwest of the Pitts Cemetery on the old Williams farm, also known as the King place. This farm was once owned by Andrew Williams. Andrew was the second husband of Jane Elizabeth MEREDITH Bell and the son of William Williams. Later, the photographer, Lovic R. Meredith, lived on the farm. It was during this period of time that the cemetery was placed on the US Geological Survey maps and named Meredith Cemetery. No Meredith’s are buried in this cemetery. Salem Cemetery is the principal burying ground for the Meredith family.

The cemetery was in extremely poor condition when enumerated. The stones had been rooted and moved by animals over the years. Some 19 graves were identified with only field stones in 1985. Only one grave had a readable marker.

Williams, Andrew, 24 September 1826 — 10 November 1889.

The writer of the Joseph King biography in the Wayne County Historical Society publication, Wayne County, Tennessee 1817-1995 History and Families, indicates that the following individuals are probably buried in this cemetery:

Williams, Violet A. King, the first wife of Andrew W. Williams,
King, Joseph, the father of Violet A. Williams, and
King, Catherine, the mother of Violet A. Williams.
