Many thanks to Scott Mitchell for sharing this 1880 photo of men in front of Tate House, located on the corner of East Main and Sparta in McMinnville.  Tate House was owned and operated by his great-great grandfather James Douglas Tate and wife Mary Jane (McGregor) Tate.   John Douglas Tate died in 1902; Mary Jane in 1911.   Soon after Mary Jane died, Charles and Martha (Tate) Mitchell sold the boarding house to the Brown family and moved to…

Last rites were held Dec. 28 at the Love-Cantrell Funeral Home Chapel for Alice Clarice Banks, 64, of Smithville. Mark Miller officiated. Burial followed in DeKalb Memorial Gardens. Banks died Dec. 22 at Centennial Medical Center following a brief  illness. A native of Lee County, she was a member of the Prosperity Baptist Church and a retired caretaker at the Webb House in Smithville.
