Rock Island resident Robert Ferman Bess died of a lingering illness Friday at Warren Regional Hospital. He was 72 years of age. A native of Dekalb County, he was the son of the late John and Martha Hale Bess and the husband of Eva Pearl Byars Bess, who survives. Manchester resident and Warren County native Alda Hobbs Arnold, 86, died May 22 at Coffee Medical Center. The former owner/operator of Greyhound Bus Station in Manchester and a member of Main Street Church of Christ in Manchester, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Maude Nunley Hobbs, and was preceded in death by her husband, J.T.
