From the Dayton Herald dated Thursday, Dec. 31, 1942:
Pete M. Massengale, 71, prominent farmer and lifelong resident of Rhea county, died early Christmas day at his home on the Washington road. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lula Bishop Massengale; five sons, Bryant, Earl and Doss of Dayton, and Arnold and Grover of Battle Creek, Michigan; and four daughters, Mrs. Charles Roberts, Mrs. W.N. Cochran and Mrs. Floyd Suttles of Dayton and Mrs. J. T. Smith of Lenoir City.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from the New Union Baptist church with the Revs. Graddy Roddy, C. E. McDonald and Charles Runyan officiating. Burial was in Spence Cemetery with Sawyers Funeral Service in charge.
Does anyone have information on Cunningham and Lewis families in Rhea Co in the 1800’s and 1900’s? I am seeking info on James Monroe Cunningham and his wife Elizabeth E Lewis and anyone else in their families. Shari Cunningham Wilson. Thanks
