Children of Asa (1802-1876) and Elizabeth (Rogers) Newport (1801-1877) who moved from Rhea County:

John and Frances M. Underwood to Missouri
Ezekiel and Leanna C. Underwood to Missouri
Asa to Missouri
James Frances Marion and Rebecca Elinor Griffith to Arkansas
Richard G. Washington and Mary L. Brown to Missouri
Margaret and William C. Underwood to Missouri

John, Ezekiel, Asa, and “Wash” Newport and William Underwood were all killed during the Civil War. James survived although seriously wounded. The father, Asa, too old to join the regular troops, signed up and drove supply wagons for the South.
