CARNEY, Mynatt Sr 14 April 1897 – 6 May 1978
CARNEY, Mynatt Sr., 81, of Rt. 4, Dayton, died at his residence Saturday morning. He was a pioneer settler of Rhea County, a member of the Clear Creek Baptist Church, and a member of the Adult Sunday School class of the church. Survived by wife, Anna Carney; three sons, Garland Carney of Detroit; Mynatt Carney Jr. of Daisy, and Robert Carney of Hixson; five daughters; Mrs. Chester Ballard of Evansville; Virginia Hollman of Chattanooga; Jewel Smith of Dayton; Francis Loy of Hixson, and Mary Jane Penny of Signal Mountain; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in the Clear Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Earl Glass and Rev. John Kelly officiating. Pallbearers will be Bill and David Carney, George and Scott Ballard, Harold Penny Jr., Floyd Hollman Jr., Jimmy Wilkey and Neal Ray. Honorary pallbearers will be Kelsoe Ballard, Jerry Wilkey, Jim Able, Grover Aikman, Tom Collins, Tom Kyle, John Cox, Leroy Clark,, and the members of the Adult Sunday School class of Clear Creek Baptist Church. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to services. Sawyer’s Funeral Service in charge.
