General Notes

The 25th Regiment TN. Inf. was organized for State service 10 Aug 1861, Transferred to the service of the Confederate States 1 Oct 1861, and re-organized 10 May 1862 in Corinth, MS.

The 25th TN. Inf. was consolidated with the 44th. TN. Inf. Oct. 1863. The 44th. Tn. Inf. had been previously consolidated with the 55th. TN. Inf. These units remained together for the remainder of the War and surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse, VA. 

“The 25th Regiment of Tennessee Volunteers, originally in Zollicoffer’s Brigade, afterward’s in Carroll’s, then Marmaduke”s and now in Johnson’s Brigade, Johnson’s Division, on detached duty in the Department of Richmond.”
The above statement appears on a roster card of Col. John M. Hughs dated July 1864.

17th TN Inf. organized for Confederate service August 10,1861; reorganized May,1862;consolidated with the 12th Tennessee Infantry June 16,1862 to form the 12th Consolidated Tennessee Infantry Regiment.

Capt. Luther B. Myers’ Company, 25 Regiment Tennessee Infantry subsequently became Company “D”, 25th. Regiment Tennessee Inf.
Note: Capt. Luther B. Myers is my great-great-grandfather. His daughter later married Waid Hampton McCormick, my great-grandfather, who also fought in Company “D” 25th.
