by Lloyd Wilkerson: This is a note from my personal interview with my mother on the Wilkerson family: at least three children [meaning Lucia, Johnie, and Maggie] died in a typhoid fever epidemic and were buried at Mt. Ararat cemetery. [She and I had visited that cemetery in 1961 and read the headstones and made a record of them] Their Mt. Ararat neighbors assisted in moving the family to their new location west of Troy in 1899. The family continued to use Mt. Ararat as a burial place for Jefferson Green Wilkerson and Letitia Annette Nichols Wilkerson. [I can remember the latter’s death, but was not allowed to go to the funeral] Mother and I could find no headstones for my grandparents, but we found those of the three children. My mother said that no headstones were ever placed at the graves of the grandparents. [I Placed appropriate headstones for my grandparents in the summer of 2000.]
The following is from the Record of the Graves in the Cemetery of Mt. Ararat: Beginning in the South East corner of the Cemetery allowing 10 feet for passway north of south line. the rows of the graves are numbered from the East toward the West. the graves and lots from south toward North. (no dates in book. dates will be added from other sources and on-sight readings)

Mt. Ararat Graves Listing Book
The following is transcribed from an old graves book listing names and locations of burials in the old cemetery at Mt. Ararat. Names in the Obion County Historical Society Cemetery Book are not included. Errors may occur due to different spellings or where names were used in one book and initials in the other. No dates were listed in the book. The book is dated 1919; do not know if any of the burials took were before 1919. This is not, by any means, the complete list of folks buried there. Dewayne said there were, at least, this many more buried there in the 1800’s and that no one knows their names or locations. Contributed by Dennis in Union City. <paugh (at) webtv.net>
