KENTON.
A thriving village of 300 inhabitants in the southeastern part of Obion County, 15 miles from Troy, the county town, and 173 from Nashville. It is on the Mobile & Ohio R. R. and the Obion River, from which power is derived for a grist and saw mill. It contains 2 churches — Methodist and Presbyterian, an academy, a number of stores and such offices, shops, etc., as are usually found in a prosperous village. It was settled in 1865, incorporated 1874. Cotton and general produce are exported. Telegraph, Western Union. Express, Southern. Mail daily. W. F. Jones, postmaster.
