JACKSONVILLE.
A flourishing post village of Obion County, in the north-western extremity of the State, situated on Obion River, near the Kentucky State line, and on the Mobile and Ohio Railroad, 150 miles north of west from Nashville, 140 miles from Memphis, and by stage route, 20 miles from Dresden, 44 from Paris, and 18 from Hickman, Ky.
It contains churches of the Baptist, Methodist, and Presbyterian denominations, one Masonic Lodge, Lodge I.O.O.F., three general stores and one grocery, two or three flouring and grist mills, one fanning mill manufacturer, two hotels and professions of various kinds. Village population 200. District 2,000. Post office established in 1857.
