TO: Miss Georgia Calhoun
Tallulah, Louisiana
December 17, 1928

Dear Cousin:

I had intended to be at John T. Calhoun’s for dinner December 28, but business matters will keep me away until about the middle of January I contemplate driving through and if you could furnish shelter for two old expedagogs (and almost Ex-everything), Mrs. C. and I may find it convenient to spend the night at or near Tallulah on our way to Alexandria and Glenmora.

I did not forward your check to Miss Eva Gilbert until a few days since for your letter was mislaid or rather put away so well I did not find it until a few days ago, but it had gone now with your request for pictures.

Miss Gilbert is no blood relative of yours but an “in-law” by Gracey blood. However, she is such a sweet girl I really think that if she could trace back far enough that she would find Calhoun blood somewhere.

Oh, but little Margaret Walters was a “Gem of purest ray serene.” One of the sweetest and brightest girls and really one of the few real Calhoun beauties.

When I see you we will talk kinfolks, their weaknesses and their strength, their sturdy characteristics and their idiosyncrasies. I am so sorry that the holidays will not find me in Louisiana but I am coming in January, so keep the coffee pot boiling. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year and many returns of the same.

Yours lovingly,

Cousin Newton
