MAXWELL, Basil
Basil Bright “Jack” MAXWELL, 95-year-old Troy resident, died Thursday afternoon at Obion County General Hospital. He had been in failing health for several months.
Services will be held at 2:30 Saturday afternoon at the Troy Associated Reformed Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Calvin SMITH officiating. Burial will follow in Troy Cemetery with White-Mahoon Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mr. MAXWELL was a member of one of the pioneer families of the Troy area, having been born there in February of 1878, son of the late John B. and Mrs. Bonnie Smith MAXWELL.
Mr. MAXWELL was a retired railroad mail clerk, having served for 38 years. He also had farming and timber interests in the Troy area.
Active in politics, Mr. MAXWELL had represented Obion County in the Tennessee legislature, was a two-time mayor of Troy and had served as chairman of the Democrat party in Obion County.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lannie Turnage MAXWELL, whom he married in 1911, and a son, John Basil MAXWELL of Memphis.
Pallbearers will be John MOSLEY, John E. HUEY, Lester HAILEY, Edwin McADOO, H.C. MOSS and Gates MALONEY.
