Beulah Baptist Church

Earlier than 1840 Methodists, Presbyterians and Baptists worshiped in a building located about four and one-half miles north of Union City called  Solitude. In 1838 this church burned and in 1841 the pioneer Baptists of the area organized and built Beulah church, about two miles north of Union City on land given by John White.

In 1853 an association including some Western Kentucky churches was organized and named “Beulah” in honor of the old Mother Church. The first recorded association session was the fourth annual meeting that met with Madrid Bend church on October 10, 1857, in Fulton County KY. It was resolved to meet with Beulah church in 1858 and W. H. McGowan was pastor at Beulah.  Seventy-two members received mail through the postoffice at Beulah, Tennessee at that time.

Fourteen association churches were: Beulah, Mount Olive, New Concord, Walnut Grove, Pleasant Hill, Sycamore Chapel, Hickman, Reelfoot, Macedonia, Republican, Madrid Bend, China Grove, Shady Grove and Poplar Grove.

By 1883 the old building was down, members scattered, and no accurate record was kept. The six members left were: John Corum, Ben Pulliam, Mrs. Mark Corum, Mrs. John Hale, Mrs. Alfred Naylor and Teresa Talley. In 1884 or 1885 a new building was erected and in 1886 Rev. R. A. Beauchamp was the pastor.  In October, 1891, Beulah entertained the association. Sunday morning, March 10, 1922, a violent windstorm destroyed the building; a new was built and dedicated  October 29, 1922. The dedication sermon was delivered by Rev. G. L. Ellis.  Other pastors since 1886:  R. A. Beauchamp, F. F. Moore, 0. L. Ellis, C. H. Bell, H. E. Watters, Rev. Wilbanks, Earl Gooch, W. A. Butler, Rev. Padfield, Charles Felts, 0. T. Mayo, E. L. Carr, W. A. Gardner, Earl Ferrell, 0. L. Reeves, H. D. Hagar, V. L. Richardson and J. B. Andrews. Historians for church were Mrs. J. L. Holt, Sr., and Mrs. Sam Corum.
