Jane Allen, a citizen of 13th Civil District of Obion County Tennessee
versus
A. J. Allen, a citizen of __ Civil District of same county.
Petitioner respectfully shows to Your Honor that on or about __ day of February 1883 she was legally marrieed to the defendant, and lived with him as a wife, doing her duty well ??? as his wife, until the month of August 1887 when the said Allen without any provocation or cause whatsoever on petitioner’s part, abandoned petitioner and refused and neglected to provide for her, and has continued to refuse and neglect to provide for her. Petitioner is informed and believes that he went off with another woman with whom or with some other one he has since that time been leading an adulterous life. In addition to his abandonment of petitioner, the defendant has slandered and vilified petitioner’s good name and all is without cause.
Petitioner has been foced to provide for herself and defend upon her own exertions for a support – the defendant utterly ignoring any obligation to do anything for her – and repeatedly declaring his intention never to live with her again.
Petitioner therefore prays a divorce a vinculo from the said A. J. Allen and to be restored to her name as it was before her marriage to him – Jane Clymer.
She asks that Allen be made a defendant to this petition – that he be served with process – that he answer and that after hearing proof Your Honor grant above relief.
W. P. and J. C. Caldwell

Petitioner Jane Allen makes oath that the facts stated in foregoing bill are true to the best of Complainant’s knowledge and belief and that the Complaint is not made out of levity or collusion with defendant but in surety and faith(?) for the causes ??? ??? in the Bill – and further she makes oath that on count of her poverty she is unable to bear the expenses of her suit and ??? to be permitted to prosecute it under laws for benefit of por persons in such cases.
