Early Obion County Settlers

George W. Broach and Mary Polly Farris were living in Obion County Tennessee in 1830 and enumerated on the 1830 Census. In 1835 David W. Farris, brother to Mary, was appointed by the court as overseer on the road from Troy to Dyersburg. George W. Broach, his brother in law, was a hand working under him. The men were to commence at Troy and work to the four mile post. Another brother in law working with George was Richard Farris.

Also living in Obion County were Alexander Farris and Elizabeth (Strain) Farris. They moved to Obion Co. from York Co. South Carolina in 1822 bringing seven (7) of their children. They were as follows; Benjamin S. Farris, Catherine Farris, David White Farris, James Farris, Mary Polly Farris, William M. Farris, and Richard Farris. Their son, Alexander Farris, stayed in South Carolina.

A marriage certificate or bond for George Broach who must have married Mary Polly Farris between 1822 and 1826 in or around Obion County Tennessee has not yet been located.
