Tinker, Elizabeth Ellen

 

Mrs. Elizabeth Ellen Tinker, believed to be Morgan County’s oldest citizen, died at Oak Ridge Hospital from injuries in a fall at her Coalfield home. Born before the Civil War, she was 101 on October 11.[1961]  Her descendants number nearly 200.

A native of Monroe County, Tenn., Mrs. Tinker spent the last 55 years of her life in the First District of Morgan County. Her husband, John Tinker, died about 30 years ago. Of the 14 children born to Mrs. Tinker, only five survive. They are Luther, Gertrude and Charles Tinker of Coalfield, Mrs. Pearl Miller of Oliver Springs and H.B. Tinker of Toz, KY; 22 grandchildren, 125 great grandchildren an unknown number of great, great grandchildren and two great, great, great grandchildren. Funeral Services were conducted from the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Coalfield.  [Morgan County News dated Nov. 2, 1961]
