ENGLAND, SARAH ELIZABETH UNDERWOOD,  died 3/11/1937, age 80 years, 11 months and 15 days.  She was born 3/23/1856 and married to James R. England 10/24/1871. There were 10 children born to this union; six boys, Kie, Preston, Lonnie, Frank and Robert; daughters, Parthenia and Ollie Howard. Her husband and two children preceded her. Burial in Mt. HUGHETT, JOSAIH SIBLEY, age 22, Louisville, Ky.  Nephew of Mrs. Mae R. Stricklin. Young Hughett was a medical srudent at the Univ. of Louisville and the son of Mrs. and Mrs. J.L. Hugett.  Burial in Louisville. [Morgan County News dated 12/2/1937]

HUMAN, NANNIE, died 3/7/1937. She was born 8/29/1865. Married to William Alvin Human on 7/21/1886.
Seven children were born and two survive; W. E. Human and Mrs. H. C. Nelson; brothers and sisters, Dudley Andrew and Anderson, Mrs. R.A. Ladd and Mrs. Mary McCartt; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.

JACKSON, HORACE M. age 69, years died at his home on the Coalfield-Oliver Springs Rd.[6/25/1937]   He was one of Morgan County’s pioneer citizens. The youngest of 16 children of Rev. W. R. and Mahala Cooper Jackson. He was married to Ida [Mae] Stonecipher, 12/25/1898. [she died 11/20/1950] There were six children born. Survivors: wife, sons, Ezraand Edgar; daughters, Edith and Marjorie; daughteres Minnie and Lizzie prceded him; four grandchildren.  Burial in Davis Cemetery. [Morgan County News]


KITTRELL, H. G., JR. age 48, Petros. He was cashier at Brushy Mountain and a former business man of Columbia and Mt. Pleasant. Also was a Shriner; a member ot Vanderbilt Chapter of Beta Theta Pi fraternity and a founder of Mt. Pleasant Rotary Club.  Leaves wife, Alberta Martin Kettrell; mother; brothers, Allie, Frank, and Harry; sister; Mrs. James Howard; daughter, Alberta Louise Kittrell; son, Hinton G. Kittrell III. OTHER HAPPENINGS IN 1937

Scott S. Swafford, former Tax Assessor of Hamilton County, was appointed Warden at Brushy Mountain by Govenor Gordon Browning.  [Morgan County News dated 1/31/1937]

Messrs Henry & Otto and Annie Leopper have just received two sweet little girls from the Childrens Home in Knoxville.  After a few weeks trial, they hope to adopt them. [Morgan County News dated 2/11/1937]

Floyd E. Freytag was appointed secondary road supervisor o Morgan, Scott, Roane and Loudon Counties. [Morgan County News dated 3/125/1937]

ELECTRICITY
After many years of untiring efforts, the residents of the two mile section of Oakdale, north on “Airline Highway” are to be blest with electricty.  Many times their spirits have been lifted in the hopes, only to be blasted again, but this time it is reality as work has actually begun on digging holes for the poles and it is hoped ‘ere the month of June shall have made its exit, electricity will be a reality in that community. J. B. Niles, engineer between Chattanooga and Oakdale, 50 years experience:  Joe Unser, age 74, 50 years experience;  Amos Taylor, 49 years; John M. Dugger, 44 years; Jim McCoy, 36 years; Simon Yutmeyer, 28 years; A.J. Reynolds, 25 years; Wilson Wilds 21 years and W.C. Sidebotham, (time not given).

FIRST APPLICATION FOR OLD AGE ASSISTANCE RECEIVED THIS WEEK

Applications for Old Age Assistance, Aid to the Blind and Aid to Dependent Children are being taken now at the Wartburg Office of the Department of Institutions and Public Welfare, from those people that are on the relief rolls.  The first application was taken Monday.  Those desiring to make application that are not on the relief rolls will be allowed to do son after August 1st.  Any9one not able to come to the office is advised to notify the office and a worker will call at the home.  Monday and Friday of each week have been set as days to take applications at the office.  [Morgan County News dated 7/1/1937]


TRUCK REGISTRATIONS INCREASE
One hundred and eighty nine (189) trucks were registered in Morgan County this year up to June 1st. against one hundred fourty seven (147) as of a correspojnding date last year, according to Mrs. Glena K. Ott, County Court Clerk.  In 1937 there were 712 automobiles, 30 county trucks, 2 motorcycles and 1 taxi.
