HOUSE, 48th General Assembly, 1891-93; representing Montgomery County; Democrat. Born in Stewart County c. 1841; son of Elsie Dunbar. Extent of schooling not determined. Married at undetermined date; all found about wife was that her name was Rosa and she was a native of Mayfield, KY; children – Elsie, Dixie, Herman, William, Alice, and Dale. Engaged in farming at Riggins Mill, Montgomery County. In Confederate Army; enlisted as Pvt., Co. B, 14th Tenn. Infantry, at Clarksville, Montgomery County, May 17, 1861; discharged on certificate of disability in Dec 1861, certificate declaring him unfit for duty by reason of "chronic inflammation of the knee and leg, resulting from typhoid fever, requiring care and attention at home". Member Cumberland Presbyterian Church; Free and Accepted Masons. Died at home at Riggins Mill, Mar 16, 1897; buried in Dunbar family graveyard, Montgomery County. Kinsman of Samuel Cuyler Dunbar, sometime member TN General Assembly.
