Savage, Howard Lane  (1895 – 1954)

HOUSE, 65th General Assembly, 1927-29; representing Montgomery and Houston Counties; Democrat. Born at Clarksville, Montgomery County, Oct 31, 1895; son of Michael and Jeanie (Morrison) Savage. Attended Southwestern Presbyterian University, Clarksville. Studied law. Married to Mildred Crouch; date and place of marriage and names of her parents not found; children – Howard Lane, Jr., Michael, and Mrs. Donald C. Alexander. Practiced law at Clarksville. For many years executive assistant to late Congressman Joseph W. Byrns; appointed legislative agent to Congress, 1933. In World War I; called into service as 2nd Lt, Aug 15, 1917; appointed to 1st Lt, Sep 14, 1917; served in 316th Machine Gun BN; 317th Machine Gun BN; 156th Depot Brigade to discharge; stationed at Camp Jackson, SC; Camp Sevier, SC; Cleveland, SC; honorably discharged Nov 30, 1918. Member Presbyterian Church; Free and Accepted Masons; Order of the Mystic Shrine; Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity; Civitan Club; American Legion. Died at Clarksville June 23, 1954; buried in Greenwood Cemetery.
