HOUSE, 47th General Assembly, 1891-93, representing Montgomery County; Democrat. Born at Guthrie, KY, Jan 24, 1837; son of Alexander Lewis and Diana (Terry) Johnson. Extent of schooling not determined. Never married. Engaged in farming and tobacco planting near Clarksville, Montgomery County. Justice of the peace; county enumerator in US Census of 1900. In Confederate Army; enlisted at Clarksville Dec 2, 1861, elected 3rd lieut. same day; captured at Fort Donelson Feb 16, 1862; sent as prisoner of war to Camp Chase, OH, and thence to Johnson's Island, Apr 26, 1862; sent to Vicksburg, MS, for exchange, Sept 1, 1862; assumed command of Co C, 49th Regt and elected Capt
Sep 27, 1862; saw action at Port Hudson; in campaign, 1863; for relief of Vicksburg; at Mobile except for short campaigns elsewhere, to early 1864 in North Georgia campaign to fall of Atlanta; came into Tennessee with Gen Hood; severely wounded at Battle of Franklin, Nov 30, 1864; rejoined regiment in North Carolina where he was paroled on surrender of Gen Joseph E. Johnston's army, Apr 18, 1865. Died at home in Montgomery County Oct 27, 1912; buried in family graveyard nearby.
