Attended Tennessee Military Institute, Sweetwater, Monroe County; B.S. degree from Centre College, Danville, KY; LL.B. degree from University of Tennessee, Knoxville, Knox County. Married at Clarksville, June 12, 1929, to Martha Orgain, daughter of Edgar and Annie (Lyle) Orgain, of Montgomery County; children - Austin V and John Hurst. Practiced law at Clarksville. Member Baptist Church. Died at Nashville, Davidson County, Mar 23, 1949, during session of 76th General Assembly; buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Clarksville. Son of Austin Peay III; father of John Hurst Peay, sometime members of TN General Assembly.
