HOUSE, 43rd General Assembly, 1883-85; representing Montgomery, Cheatham, and Houston Counties; Democrat. Born in Cheatham County July 19, 1839; son of Littleton J. and Martha A. (Williams) Pardue. Attended Stewart College, Clarksville, Montgomery County, and Cumberland University, Lebanon, Wilson County. Married in 1872 to Charlie D. Parham of Montgomery County, daughter of Charles L. and Mary A. Parham; children – Littleton J., Charles P., Annie M., Jennie E., and twins, George M., and Lizzie M. Following Civil War, engaged in farming near Clarksville; at time also engaged in merchandising and buying and selling timber; continued farming until retirement; 1909, to Sadlersville, Robertson County. In Confederate army; mustered into state service as 2nd Lt., Co. C., 42nd TN Infantry, Aug 6, 1961, and into Confederate service at Camp Cheatham, Robertson County, Oct 24, 1861; unit later merged with Co. G., same regiment; captured at Fort Donelson Feb 16, 1862; sent as prisoner of war to Johnson Island, OH, Apr 26, 1862; sent for exchange to Vicksburg, MS, Sep 1, 1862; elected Capt. of Co. G. Sep 27, 1862; because of lameness detached to command wagon train May 26, 1863; captured in Cheatham County in 1863; but escaped at Nashville and returned to command, tendered resignation as Capt. Co G Jan 4, 1865; sources in pension file differ as to results; one notation from National Archives states “resignation returned to him through General Beauregard Feb 10, 1865, disapproved”. Subject at one place in pension application states he remained with baggage train throughout war; at another place he states his resignation was accepted and he joined Baker’s Battalion of Independent Scouts; “was furloughed to go home to get recruits for Baker’s new command”; was on this assignment when war ended. Died in Montgomery County Aug 3, 1912; buried in Sory family graveyard, Robertson County.
