Harrell, George A.  (c.1821 – 1862)

HOUSE, 28th General Assembly, 1849-51; representing Montgomery County; Whig. Born in Nelson County, KY, c. 1821. Names of parents and extent of schooling not determined. Was single in 1849; nothing to indicate marriage thereafter. Engaged in practice of law at Clarksville, Montgomery County. Member Clarksville "School Committee", 1858. Assistant presidential elector, 1848, supporting Whig ticket of Zachary Taylor and Millard Fillmore. In Confederate Army; enlisted May 14, 1861, at Camp Duncan, near Clarksville as Capt. Co A, 14th TN Infantry; promoted to major sometime before Nov, 1861; elected Lieut Col Apr 26, 1862; wounded at Battle of Cedar Run, Virginia, Aug 9, 1862; died from wounds Aug 14 or 15, 1862; place of burial not determined.
