Assistant presidential elector, 1848, supporting Whig ticket of Zachary Taylor and Millard Fillmore. In Confederate Army; enlisted May 14, 1861, at Camp Duncan, near Clarksville as Capt. Co A, 14th TN Infantry; promoted to major sometime before Nov, 1861; elected Lieut Col Apr 26, 1862; wounded at Battle of Cedar Run, Virginia, Aug 9, 1862; died from wounds Aug 14 or 15, 1862; place of burial not determined.
