Ferguson, Robert French, Jr.  (1815 – 1882)

HOUSE, 37th and 38th General Assemblies, 1871-75; representing Montgomery County; Democrat. Born in Springfield, MA, Feb 18, 1815; son of Robert French and Hannah C. (Babcock) Ferguson. Attended William and Mary College, Williamsburg, VA. Married, date not found, to Nancy Barker, daughter of John Barker of "Cloverlands", Montgomery County; children – John Barker, Robert F., Mrs. George McCauley, Mrs. Ross McCurdy, Mrs. Watson Mason, Thomas, and three whose names are not indicated. Joined brother, Jesse Babcock Ferguson, in publishing newspaper in Kentucky; in 1844 took up farming at "Cloverlands", Montgomery County; became a leading agriculturist in that county, owning some 1,500 acres at time of death. A frequent contributor to New York Tribune and Cincinnati Enquirer. Member Congregational Church; erected a church on his farm. Died May 12, 1882; place of death and of burial not indicated.
