Davis, Staton, Jr.  (1921 -         )

HOUSE, 77th General Assembly, 1951-53; representing Montgomery County; Democrat. Born at Clarksville, Montgomery County, Oct. 16, 1921, son of Staton and Ruby (Davenport) Davis. Attended Howell elementary school; Clarksville High School, graduating 1938; Austin Peay State College, Clarksville; Alabama Polytechnic Institute, Auburn, Ala.; schooling interrupted by entering military service 1942. Married at Hopkinsville, Ky., July 3, 1948, to Dorothy Vinson, daughter of T. S. and Lola Hazel (Compton) Vinson, of Stewart County; one daughter – Mary Vinson. Associated with father in retail shoe store, Clarksville. In World War II; inducted Nov 21, 1942, at Fort Oglethorpe, GA; Corp. in field artillery; N.C.O., 621, Intelligence; overseas one year, one month, and fifteen days; honorably discharged Feb 18, 1946, at Camp Chaffee, AR; decorations – World War II Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, A. P. Ribbon, and Philippine Liberation Ribbon. Member Christian Church; American Legion; 40 and 8; Veterans of Foreign Wars. Residence 1029 Cumberland Drive, Clarksville. Great-nephew of James Jesse Broome, sometime member TN General Assembly.
