Cross, James William  (1876 – 1956)

HOUSE, 76th General Assembly, 1949-51; representing Montgomery and Houston counties; Democrat. Born at Clarksville, Montgomery County, Nov. 15, 1876; son of William Bolling and Adelide Tennessee (McCool) Cross. Attended McAdoo Elementary School, Hickory Point, Montgomery County, completing 8th grade in 1890. Married at Hickory Point, Apr. 12, 1905, to Margaret Laughren of that place, daughter of Andrew J. and Lucy W. (Thompson) Laughren; one son – James William, Jr. Made home at Hickory Point where he engaged in farming, 1900-56, and in merchandising, 1912-56; rural mail carrier, 1901-18; postmaster at Hickory Point, 1932-48. Steward in Methodist Episcopal Church; member Independent Order of Odd Fellows fifty years. Died at Clarksville June 13, 1956; buried in Greenwood Cemetery.
