Munford, Arthur Hendrick  (1849 – 1901)

HOUSE, 44th General Assembly, 1885-87; representing Montgomery County; Democrat. Born at Clarksville, Montgomery County, June 2, 1849; son of William B. and Amanda G. (Johnson) Munford. Attended “common schools”; Stewart College, Clarksville; studied law and admitted to bar, 1872. Married Apr 29, 1880, to Lilly May Underwood, daughter of Joseph R. and Elizabeth (Cox) Underwood, of Bowling Green, KY; two daughters – Elizabeth Underwood and Josephine U. Engaged in practice of law at Clarksville. City attorney, 1873-75; member city council; judge of 10th judicial circuit, 1886 to death. Member Presbyterian Church; Free and Accepted Masons; Knights of Pythias; Independent order of Odd Fellows. Died Mar 9, 1901, at El Paso, TX, where he had gone for health; buried in Greenwood Cemetery, Clarksville. Son of William B. Munford; nephew of Thomas J. Munford and Miles McCorkle; cousin of Charles Percy Warfield, sometime members TN General Assembly.
