Lieutenant-General Nathan Bedford
Forrest
At the beginning of the War, Forrest,
a citizen of Memphis, organized a cavalry force which he led at Fort
Donelson and Shiloh. In July, 1862, he captured a union garrison at
Murfreesboro. In 1864, he commanded the cavalry under Hood
in the Tennessee campaign. Many consider Forrest the
greatest Confederate cavalryman. |
