09/16/2014: Divided all the sections concerning newspaper items into two sections- one for the South Pittsburg Hustler and one for the Jasper Journal. Mostly the Hustler only covers South Pittsburg and the Journal covers Jasper and Whitwell. The Jasper Journal started in 1938; so before that, the only coverage of Whitwell was by obituaries sent to the Chattanooga, TN newspapers. Later if any Marion County items are found in the Chattanooga papers, a third division of these pages will be created.

More newspaper items were added to both the Hustler pages and to the Jasper Journal pages.

09/06/2014: Digital copies were made of the microfilm pages of the earliest Marion County court Minutes Book (Jan. 1842- Oct. 1847), and then a viewer was created for those pages to view the actual images. That can be acessed from the "Archives-> Court" section of the main page menu bar. This also has images of an index. Later these pages will be transcribed, so that the content will be searchable text.

09/02/2014: Today started getting all genealogically significant articles from the South Pittsburg Hustler. The microfilms of the paper start in 1909, but I started with the microfilm beginning January 1913. Two obituaries and several social announcements were added to this site. This will be ongoing for a very long time.

08/14/2014: With the loss of Nancy Cole, I became the County Coordinator for this TNGenWeb county. I have reworked this entire web site to make it HTML5 compliant and changed the graphics and appearance. I hope you like the site. The layout was also restructured to allow growth. I plan to actively see the number of genealogy records grow to a large number, adding a lot myself, and for that reason the layout of the site had to change from a basically one-page layout. Now I will be actively adding a large number of newspaper records, wills and probate for a start, and I hope others visiting this site with an interest in the local genealogy will join to help by sending record scans or transcriptions to share here.
