01/29/2015:
I am in the process of scanning all of the newspaper microfilms of the county as far as
permissible as an on-going project. I made viewers for viewing the actual images of the
pages. These are located in the newspapers section of the main page index. Continuing to
add Will transcriptions with the help of Pam Collier.
01/14/2015:
Finished the whole Gaines Chapel Cemetery with all grave photos and a listing of burials
including known burials without grave markers and biographical information for each person
buried here as far as could be obtained.
01/10/2015:
Added a link to Biographies transcribed by TNGenWeb volunteers from the book, Who's Who in
Tennessee. This link is only to the biographies for Marion County residents. The book was
published in the 1890's; so it is first-hand from people living in the late 1800's.
01/08/2015:
More Wills transcribed from Will book 1. Transcriptions completed through page 71. Thirty
three wills are now transcribed.
A history with grave photos and family photos has been added to the cemeteries section for
the
Gaines Chapel Church, School, and Cemetery of the former community of Comfort in Battle
Creek, and this is still in progress with plans of finishing in a week.
Also added a scan of an 1836 map of the county's justice precincts/civil districts along
with the text descriptions of the boundaries of the districts. This map was obtained from
the Tennessee State Library and Archives Manuscripts Section. More maps to follow when
scanned and processed.
11/02/2014:
Continuing to transcribe Will Book #1. This is now transcribed through page 60.
10/28/2014:
Continuing to transcribe wills from Will Book #1, and adding them to the Wills section.
A new section was created for transcriptions of military veterans documents, since Byron
Bowman had donated a transcription of the Revolutionary War Pension Application of William
Bowman, 1833. This is accessible from the main page navigation bar in the section:
Military/Veterans Records Transcriptions. Any transcriptions donated by anyone related to
military service will be placed here.
