PETITION.
To the Honorable the Commissioners of Claims under the Act of Congress of March 3, 1871:
Your petitioner 1) Elizabeth Jacobs respectfully represent that She is a citizen and resident of Eve Mills Loudon County State of 2) Tennessee. That she is the original owner of the hereinafter mentioned claim; 3)...that there was 4) taken from the petitioner for the use of the army of the United states, for which no payment has been made, or compensation received in any manner or from any source for any part thereof, the following described supplies, viz.: 5) taken about the 10th day of December 1863
1. one fine mule...$150.00
2. 2 pairs of hammes...$20.00
3. 150 lbs. Bacon at 12 1/2 cents...$15.75
4. 1000 bushels of corn...$100.00
5. one mare 2 years old...$135.00 
that the prices charged are the fair market value for the supplies at the time and place last mentioned, as your petitioner is informed and believe; that said supplies were 6) taken by Col. Long...No. 1 &2 his regiment not recollected ...on his return from Knoxville Tenn, the mule was taken and hammes, for artillery use by order of Col. Long... No. 3, 4, &5 were taken by the Command of General McCook who was then in command of cavalry when on his return from Knoxville where he had been to the relief of Genl. Burnside, they camped near my place one night as I then lived in Monroe County near the Little Tennessee River at that time there was quite an army passing in the direction of Chattanooga and was getting supplies off of the citizens a receipt was promised If I would go to the camps, but did not go to get it.
Genl. Burnside was in command of the district at that time, In addition to my ...the taking of the supplies of Mary Gaston, and Catherine Cook, and Robert Jacobs, whose post office is Eve Mills Loudon County, Tenn. For proof of my loyalty V. Gaston and Edmond Cook, post office Eve Mills, Tenn.
Mary Gaston, Catherine Cook, and daughters & Robert Jacobs is my son. No. 6, was taken by the command of Genl. McCook at the same time and under the same circumstances that No. 3, 4, &5 was taken.
That this claim 7) was filed before the Commission of Tennessee at Knoxville, there ...was any action taken.
Your petitioner further say that she hereby appoints N.P. Chipman, A.A. Hosmer and C.D. Gilmore doing business under the name of Chipman, Hosmer, and Co. of the City of Washington D.C. as her true and lawful attorneys to appear before the Claims Commission appointed under the act of Congress of March 3, 1871 , or any Court, Department, or Bureau of the Government of the unites States, and prosecute this claim to the final issue, with full power of substitution, herby ratifying and conforming all said attorneys or either of them shall lawfully do in virtue hereof, and herby annulling and revoking all other powers of attorney in the premises.
Your petitioner further over that she is citizen who remained loyal adherent to the cause and the Government of the United States during the war, and were so loyal before and at the time of the taking or furnishing of the property for which claim is made.

8) I Elizabeth Jacobs having duly sworn...and says that she is the petitioner named in the foregoing petition and she signed the same that the matters therein stated are true to..., our knowledge, and the knowledge of the witnesses heretofore stated in the petition
and ...further says, that she did not voluntarily serve in the Confederate Army, or Navy either as an officer, soldier, or sailor, or in any other capacity, at any time during the late rebellion; that she never voluntarily furnished any stores supplies or other material aid to said Confederate army or navy or to the Confederate Government, or to any officer department or adherent of the Same in support thereof, and that she never voluntarily accepted or exercised the functions of any office whatsoever under or yielded voluntary support to the Said Confederate Government.
