1861-1865
- The "War of the
Rebellion" began on April 12, 1861 when the Confederates
fired on Fort Sumter, South Carolina.
- The war ended on April
9, 1865 when General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General
U. S. Grant at Appomattox Court House, Virginia.
- Although Loudon County
was not officially a Tennessee County yet, her men still
fought in the war.
