I am searching for information on my Kelley family (note: it is spelled with two E’s). The 1860 Giles County census lists Mary Kelley, age 41; Thomas, age 21 (age varies depending on which census), Sarah J, age 16; Mary E, age 13; James R, age 9. Mary’s husband had not died. They were just separated. A letter written by Mary in 1867 from Giles County to James Riley in AK makes it clear the father was living and in the same general area. Thomas was my great, great grandfather. Thomas married Amanda White in Lawrence County in 1851. I believe Amanda was the daughter of Caleb White listed in the 1850 Giles County census. Their children were: Thomas born 1852; William R born 1853 (my great grandfather) John born 1856; Samuel H born 1858; Daniel J born 1859; Joseph D born 1862; Henry born 1864; Alexander born 1866; Jonas born 1868; Ida born 1870; and Alonza born 1872. William married Elizabeth Scott (aka Hepsey) about 1873. They had 2 sons, Edward born 1875 (my grandfather) and John Melvin born 1877. Edward attended school at Fall River. William was the overseer of a plantation located on SEVEN MILE ISLAND which is in the middle of the Tenessee River. It was owned by the Becker or Beckman family. It was a fair sized community and even had a post office. The island is much smaller now due to the building of dams. The family lived in the Lawrence County area til about 1893-94 when they moved to West Texas where William died. The family then moved to AK and the to OK. I would like to exchange information with anyone from this family and would especially like information on Thomas’s father. I will be happy to share any information I have.

I would appreciate help in finding any decsendents of Samuel Copeland who lived in either Giles or Lawrence County. I have a photograph that was in the possession of my grandfather Edward Kelley. On the back is is written Edward Kelley and Clement Copeland. It was probably taken in the early 1890’s since my grandfather was born in 1875 and both men appear to be in their mid to late teens. I would like to find these decsendents so I can provide the family with a copy. It appears to have been taken at some kind of play or program and is very clear. Need info on 32nd TN Infantry, Confederate Army. I believe one of my ancestors fought in the unit, but am unable to get much info. The name of this person is M.P. Brown. According to the 1860 census he is my great great grandfather, residing in Lawrence Co, Tn. According to the index, someone of his name served in the unit. His wife’s name was Nancy A. Brown, with children Neal, and Mary Elizabeth. He does not show up as living in their household in the 1870 census, and I presume that he could have been killed in the war. Other than contacting the Archives, can you tell me where I might get some more definitive info on him. I live in the Bham, Al area, and I was hoping somewhere more local might have data on the co. He served in Co. C. Any help anyone might could bive me to link him to Nancy, or thechildren would be greatly appreciated in helping me trace my ancestor. He could possibly be Martin P. Brown who served in the 54th TN Infantry. > Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Young, father of Hestian Youngs, he is listed in the 1910 Wayne County cencus as the first child of Bartley M. Young age 23 yrs. Hestian’s fathers Bartley Young and his mother, Narcissa E. (Walker) Young, were from Wayne County, TN. They possibly moved to Lawrence County, in early 1916/1917. He married Emma Elizebeth Shelton on 8 May 1910, she was born on Aug 23, 1892 in Giles County Tn. My dad, Henry Bartley Young was born, 1 Jan,1912, I think Hestian died in a flu epidemic early 1918’s, in Lawrenceburg, Tn. They also had a girl baby Wilma Grace that died at the same time. My father had two brothers named Norman, and Walter Young. I was born on 26 Jan., 1934 in Lawrenceburg, Tn. but can’t seem to find any information there.
