The following list of tax papers in Lawrence County was transcribed from the original list at the Tennessee State Library and Archives (a copy is housed at the Lawrence County Archives). Each person who owned property or paid poll tax is listed.

The acreage, amounts paid in tax, or districts are not listed on the original. Many of the names were very hard to read, and I am sure we probably made some mistakes, but we did the best we could considering the writing. We tried to verify names using other sources whenever possible.

If there is a question mark beside a name, that means we are unsure of the spelling. The number following each name is the order in which they appear on the list. This will enable us to locate a particular person whose name you want copied, since the original list is not in alphabetical order.
