DEATH–The remains of Andrew U. GIVEN, who died from a heart attack at his home in Elizabethton at an early hour Monday morning, arrived in Ripley Wednesday morning on the 8:38 train, and after funeral services were laid to rest in Maplewood Cemetery. Mr. GIVEN was in his 57th year, having been born in Ripley on October 19, 1875. For several years he resided in Martin and Covington, and during this perion was engaged in highway construction for the State of Tennessee, building over 100 miles of hard surface roads. Some two years ago, he moved to Elizabethton and organized the East Tennessee Sand & Gravel Co., of which he became general manager at the time and continued in this position until his death. Mr. & Mrs. GIVEN lived in Ripley five years after marriage, and it was here that their three oldest children were born. Mr. GIVEN was a son of Mrs. Kate Hearring GIVEN, who died in 1926, and who was a member of one of the pioneer families of Ripley. He is survived by his widow, who before her marriage was Miss Lena HAMPTON, of St. Louis; one daughter, Mrs. J. A. BOYD, of Memphis; five sons, A. U. GIVEN, Jr., of Atlanta, Ga., William GIVEN, of Memphis, Phillip GIVEN, Robert Alvin GIVEN and Joseph Hampton GIVEN, who reside with their mother in Elizabethton; Phillip being ill with scarlet fever, and the home being in quarantine, preventing Mrs. GIVEN and the three sons living with her from attending the last sad rites. The other sons and daughter were present;also Dr. & Mrs. J. J. BOYD, of Covington, parents of Mr. J. A. BOYD.
