Mrs. Thos. H. Calloway Badly Hurt (1872)
Badly Hurt. – Mrs. Thos. H. CALLOWAY, of this place, was badly injured on Saturday last, by a horse running away with a vehicle in which she was riding. The occurrence took place in descending the Clingan Hill, three miles north of town. The disaster was caused by the hold-back straps breaking and allowing the vehicle to run upon the animals [sic] haunches. Mrs. C. was thrown from the vehicle against a stump, and was badly hurt–getting an arm broken and her face receiving some ugly cuts. She had two children with her, but fortunately their injuries were trifling. The driver, a colored man, had an arm broken, and was otherwise injured. We learn that Mrs. C. is doing well and will recover from the injuries received. (page 3, col 1)
