LEA, Hugh L. (d. 1872) – Tribute of Respect

Whereas, by the dispensation of Providence, our friend and brother, Hugh L. LEA, on the 31st day of January, 1862, was summoned by the irresistible fiat of death from labor in the Lodge below to meet the Grand Master of the Universe at refreshment in the Grand Lodge above.

And, whereas, our brother while with us was characterized by his many gentlemanly and christian virtues; his orderly and upright walk and conversation; his unrivaled Christian and Masonic charities, his true devotion to the cherished principles and trusts of our order, and as a brother, friend and citizen, truly filial, faithful, and zealous for the welfare of his country.  Therefore, be it resolved,

That in his death our order has lost a noble and zealous member, whose vacant seat among us cannot easily be refilled, our country an upright, worthy and valuable citizen, his brothers and sisters a true, tried and affectionate brother.

2d.  That while we bow in humble submission to the hand of Providence, in this said manifestation, we can but lament our irreparable loss, and mingle our deep sorrow and heartfelt sympathy with that of his brothers and sisters and many friends.

3d. That we set apart a page of our Lodge Record sacred to his memory and the commemoration of his many virtues, and that we wear the usual badge of mourning for the space of thirty days.

4th. That a copy of these resolutions be furnished the family of the deceased and that they be published in the Cleveland Banner.
